Maribel's training in psychology focused on seeing the individual as a social entity, a member of a community with a cultural identity and affinity to a specific group. From this perspective, she views the human psyche as having not only the complexity of the individual's development but also the strengths, conflicts, and distresses of his/her social interactions. As a Community Psychologist in Puerto Rico, Maribel provided community intervention for individuals, groups and families. She focused on substance abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, adjustment to illness, women's issues, self-esteem, and depression.
After moving to Orlando, Florida, Maribel pursued post master studies and trainings in order to expand her scope of individual treatment approaches to include adjustment to life altering events as well as trauma and grief. She amplified her intervention approaches regarding the treatment of symptoms and disorders that can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), addiction, and sexual compulsive behaviors. Maribel works with adolescent and adult populations. She specializes in providing individual therapy services for resolution of emotional distress and recovery from mental health disorders. She sees couples for conflict resolution, relational skills development and relationship healing after betrayal. Family intervention services are provided for support of individual recovery and family adjustment. Groups are provided for women recovering from toxic love. Maribel has additional training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. |
